BPI Wins Social Empowerment Award at Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards 2017
JAKARTA, June 5, 2017 – PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia (BPI)’s commitment for the implementation of social empowerment programs received recognition from Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards (AREA) 2017 for Social Empowerment Category on Friday (2/6) in Bangkok, Thailand.
BPI’s CSR program titled “Community Empowerment Through Social Mitigation Program” was regarded as having a positive impact and successful in empowering people through measured and sustainable social programs.
“We highly appreciate this award from AREA, and this award encouraging us to continuously innovate to implement our corporate social responsibility program that are focused on community (or social) empowerment,” said BPI Operational Director, Shiroki Yamashita, after receiving the award in Bangkok, Thailand.
At AREA 2017 awarding event which was attended by 300 representatives from Asia, BPI won an award in the “Social Empowerment” category. AREA judging panel regarded that BPI’s social empowerment program was conducted sustainably alongside the mitigation program. The “Social Empowerment” requires an award recipient that consistently empowers individuals or community.
BPI’s “Community Empowerment Through Social Mitigation” program ticked all the right boxes for the seven judges in the panel. The criteria imposed by the panel include Innovation, Solution-oriented Result, Sustainability, and Integration.
“The Social Empowerment Award from AREA is also a form of global recognition toward BPI’s programs. It is our firm commitment to provide extensive CSR programs that are beneficial for Batang community empowerment,” said BPI President Director, Takashi Irie.
This largest CSR awarding event in Asia is a platform where every company that receives the award can share with each other, educate as well as inspire more people in initiating CSR programs that can greatly affect people in a specific area or the public at large.
BPI’s series of public empowerment programs will continue to be improved to ensure self-sufficient and sustainable community development. One of them is the Kelompok Usaha Bersama (KUB – Micro Entreprisess Groups) which has currently reached 122 with a total of 1,896 members, especially in villages affected by the project.
Through the community empowerment program, BPI also implements a number of programs focusing on economic development, education, health and infrastructure, social culture and the environment. Program activities are conducted based on people’s needs, the local socio-cultural condition, the region’s potential and to support government’s policies.
For the education sector, BPI contributed by establishing 14 out of 30 Village Libraries in 14 villages affected by Central Java Power Plant. By partnership with government institutions such as the Batang Regency government, and third parties like Coca Cola Foundation Indonesia as well as the locals, BPI continues to implement its commitment to support Village Libraries so they can transform into community empowerment programs.
