BPI Distributes Thousands of Books to Encourage Reading Interest in the Batang Community

Batang, 17 April 2018 - PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia (BPI) continues to be committed to continuing to encourage community interest, especially children. This commitment is manifested in the form of handing over thousands of book packages to 15 Village Libraries (Perpusdes) located in three sub-districts, namely Tulis, Kandeman, and Subah.

 
"The books that we submit have interesting and educative pictures so that children will be interested in reading them, and eventually children's reading interest can increase," said BPI's COO Shiroki Yamashita. Yamashita also explained that reading is one of the basics of education so he hopes that children can get easy access and also good quality reading material to encourage them to learn and develop themselves.
 
This activity was also attended by Takayuki Saito, Deputy Manager of the Power Project Department, Itochu Corporation, as one of the representatives of BPI sponsors. Saito explained that Itochu as one of the sponsors is responsible and committed to supporting BPI through regular monitoring. Furthermore, BPI's CSR that has been carried out since 2012 is based on various community-based activities, one of which is in the field of education. According to him, public education is very important in implementing CSR programs in order to build trust and good relations between the company and the community.
 
In this activity, BPI distributed 2,160 book packages for children for the village libraries that were supervised by BPI. The event collaborated with the Regional Library and Archives Office of Batang Regency and was held at the Cahaya Ilmu Village Library, Village Hall Tulis, Tulis sub-district.
 
The packages given are books that have been adapted to the needs of the child's age level. The books include the science magazine KUAKR, a children's pictorial science magazine that contains lessons according to the elementary school curriculum.
 
BPI itself has been committed to continuing to develop libraries since 2015 for the community of Batang. The effort was carried out in collaboration with the Library and Archives Service of Batang and Coca Cola Foundation Indonesia (CCFI).
 
One of the leading programs in advancing libraries in Batang is by replicating the Perpuseru program in 15 villages in Kandeman, Tulis, and Subah Districts. The replication aims to make the village library a center for community activities and learning based on Information and Communication Technology so that the improvement of the quality of life of the community continues.
 
The library development program by BPI is also carried out by providing a number of facilities, such as the handover of computer equipment, periodic addition to book collections, and support for the Perpusdes' annual work program.
 
Sharing Library Management Knowledge
 
In addition to the handover of thousands of book packages, BPI was also presented and shared experiences in library management at the Batang Regency Hall which was initiated by the Batang Library and Archives Service. BPI has been considered as a private company that has concern and success in developing the library sector in the villages around the project area.
 
The activity was attended by the Batang Regency Assistant 1, the Head of the Batang Rakhmat Nurul Fadilah Library and Archives Service, the ranks of regional apparatus organizations, sub-district heads, village heads, and administrators of the village libraries. This activity is expected to motivate the ranks of government and other companies to support the ideals of the Batang Regency Government in realizing a "Smart Village".
